Okay,

That was another hot day in the 8th Grade room. I need to work on a redesign of the room to get the breeze in and the sun out. 6th grade and I did a quick experiment at the end of the day and found that we could make it hotter by closing the windows even though the curtains keep the sun out.

Home work: 8th Math - Finish Problem 1.1
6th Science - Finish the Science survey

Tomorrow in 7th math we will begin the jumping jacks. Hope that it is cooler than it was today.  8th grade will be working on their linear relationships from the experiment homework.  Also 8th grade will be getting some Kieve paperwork with packing info, timing info and a permission slip for the bus ride. Here is a link to the Kieve Leadership School. It has some links to information that might help you as you plan for next weeks adventure.

Cool off tonight,

Mr. Porter

What a great day. 8th grade came in and had a fun re-entry to the school routine. Stories, sharing and updates from me. Fund raising thoughts and questions were on the for front of most students minds. The other thing is the Kieve experience that they seem to be looking forward to. That social connection with their freshman class is always a strong one. Some talk of dances and fund-raising later in the day after our intro to math.

7th grade then entered and with the addition of a few new students we got through the usual first day stuff and then got into some math lesson. Nothing like getting started on day one.

6th grade started with intro and then got some observations started. Great group with lots of ideas and insights and ideas. The temp during this class was approaching 95° so credit to them fro hanging in there.

A full day for me but it was great to be back with the students.

Just a note to you about the impending beginning of school on Monday. Sounds like it could be a hot one! What happened to starting after Labor Day?

For parents there are a few links on the tabs above for you to explore when you have a moment. What will be needed for class this year, expectations, calendar, contact information, and a forum for you, your child and me to connect around issues that concern us all.

For students there are all of the above options as well. Just  a heads up the schedule will be much different this year so get ready for "new".

Wednesday night Sept. 1st will be a welcome back night at AVS. All encouraged to attend. There will be garden visits, ropes course tours, classroom visits and parent teacher conferences sign-ups. Oh yes, there is talk of some spaghetti around 6:00pm.

8th grade students will be heading off to Kieve on Wednesday, Sept. 8th for three days.

Looking forward to getting together on Monday.
